August 2011: Re-building the “Billy Goat” path (off of Lavender Hill Road) manually proved too difficult and time consuming due to its thick growth of vines and the thorny multiflora bush. A “mini-excavator” machine would do the job along with volunteers following it to detail the slope and surface of the path. Friends of the Trail rented a mini-excavator. They could do so knowing Dave Rickerman, a very resourceful volunteer, would operate the machine. A full day of hard work completed the new path. Now, as a visitor walks the “Billy Goat” entrance towards the main trail a beautiful and exceptional natural wetland can be seen and heard where birds, flowers, amphibians, reptiles and large trees exist.
