60 Foot Boardwalk Completed
This beautifully crafted 60ft boardwalk on the Mill Race Trail leads hikers to the loop along the
White Clay Creek. Eagle Scout leader Wesley Schwarz along with scoutmaster Nick Gramig and scouts from
Troop 53 designed and built
the boardwalk during August 2011. The springtime Shunk Cabbage
(Symplocarpus foetidus) can now be easily and enjoyably traversed.
The boardwalk weathered the flooding during Hurricane Irene (shown above, the photo at the top was taken
after the storm), a testament to its quality construction. The White Clay Creek overflows its banks and
washes over parts of the Mill Race Trail during moderate and severe flooding.
